A warm welcome to Fuhrman Lab postdoc Nathan Williams who recently joined CBIOMES.
by Helen Hill for CBIOMES
HH: In summary, what are your research interests?
NW: During my PhD (2019-2022), I used molecular techniques to investigate microbial hazards in coastal environments. I joined the Fuhrman lab in August 2023, and my research interests have moved beyond water quality, to an interest in using metagenomics to facilitate a better understanding of the distribution of marine microbes, why they are where they are, and to better understand the roles they play in major global biogeochemical cycles.
HH: What are you going to be working on for CBIOMES?
NW: Within CBIOMES I will be using sequencing and metagenomic data from multiple cruises to compare the distribution of microbes in the real world to those predicted by the DARWIN model.
HH: What is your educational background (BS, MS?)
NW: I obtained by BS HnrS, and PhD from the University of Technology Sydney.
