Congratulations to Olivia Ahern for her recent award.
In a recent announcement, the Joint Genome Institute, a DOE Office of Science User Facility, revealed its 2024 awardees for the Community Science Program. Among the recipients is Olivia Ahern, a researcher from the MBL CBIOMES team, recognized for her proposal titled “Linking Genes to Models: Unraveling Microbial Food Web Connectivity Through Multi-Substrate RNA Stable Isotope Probing, Omics, and Metabolic Models.”
This program focuses on large-scale genomic science projects aligned with the DOE’s Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) missions, encompassing areas such as sustainable biofuel and bioproducts production, global carbon and nutrient cycling, and biogeochemistry.
Olivia is a Postdoc at MBL and a Guest Investigator at WHOI, working with Joe Vallino and Julie Huber. Her research centers on microbial ecology, examining organism interactions and their impact on biogeochemical cycling, adaptation, and evolution. Her current work delves into marine food web connectivity, exploring trophic cascades through stable isotope probing, genomics, and ecosystem modeling.
Congratulations Olivia!
