CBIOMES Welcomes Leonhard Lücken

A warm welcome to researcher Leonhard Lücken who recently joined CBIOMES

by Helen Hill for CBIOMES

Leonhard Lücken, is interested in mathematical modelling of ecosystem dynamics, in particular those of microbial communities.

As part of “Interaction networks in phototroph-heterotroph microbial communities”, a CBIOMES project led by Sinikka Lennartz, Leonhard is beginning to implement a Julia-version of a microbial community model (originally devised by Mick Follows and Jason Bragg), which takes into account mutualistic interactions between phytoplankton and bacteria. The work seeks to understand the impact of network topology on community assembly and dynamics using that model.

Lücken holds a diploma (the German equivalent of an MS) and a PhD in mathematics with a specialization in dynamical systems (both from Humboldt University of Berlin). After his PhD, he did a postdoc in the field of traffic modeling (at the German Aerospace Center) and since 2019 (until joining CBIOMES) was a postdoc in the mathematical modeling group at University of Oldenburg.
