A warm CBIOMES-welcome to University of Split, Croatia doctoral candidate Marija Bačeković Koloper who recently joined CBIOMES.
by Helen Hill for CBIOMES
HH: In summary, what are your research interests?
MK: I am interested in how light interacts with the marine ecosystem, specifically its impact on phytoplankton photosynthesis. My research interests are in mathematical modeling of primary production. The focus of my work is to understand uncertainties in the predictions of primary production models that arise due to parameter assignment issues.
MK: I will work on stochastic formulation of primary production models, tackling the parameter assignment problem in primary production models using stochastic approaches. The research will incorporate in vitro and in situ primary production measurements, applying inverse modelling to constrain parameter values. Such stochastic models have a potential application in remote sensing and ecosystem modelling to help estimate model uncertainty.
HH: What is your educational background (BS, MS)?
MK: I hold a master’s degree in Biophysics, as well as two bachelor’s degrees—one in Physics and another in Architecture and Urban Planning.
