CBIOMES Welcomes Maddy Martin

CBIOMES is pleased to welcome Maddy Martin to the team as she joins Shubha Sathyendranath’s research group at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

Maddy is a Junior Earth Observation Scientist whose research focuses on the application of remote sensing to understand marine primary productivity. Her interests center on using ocean observations and satellite data to better understand the processes that drive phytoplankton growth and the ocean’s role in the Earth system.

As part of her work with CBIOMES, Maddy is collaborating with Shubha on primary production models and investigating how temperature influences photosynthetic parameters, an important area of research for improving our understanding of marine ecosystem responses to environmental change.

Maddy earned a BSc in Marine Biology and Oceanography from the University of Plymouth. Her undergraduate dissertation examined the wind-driven aerosolization of harmful algal bloom toxins, reflecting her longstanding interest in marine processes and environmental dynamics.
