A warm welcome to postdoc Shlomit Sharoni who recently joined the Follows Group.
by Helen Hill for CBIOMES
HH: In summary, what are your research interests?
SS: I am a biogeochemist. I explore topics related to ecological stoichiometry, oceanography, and biogeochemical cycles using mathematical models and statistical tools.
HH: What are you going to be working on for CBIOMES?
SS: I will study the macromolecular composition of phytoplankton in the ocean and its effect on the stoichiometry of the organic matter. Furthermore, I will explore how the macromolecule composition affects the respiration quotients of organic matter and the overall oxygen budget of the ocean.
HH: What is your educational background (BS, MS?)
SS: I have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Hebrew University (Israel). I completed my MSc and PhD at the department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel).
Story image: In her spare time Shlomit enjoys practicing aerial acrobatics, yoga, and riding her bicycle.
