CBIOMES Welcomes Trisha Dawn

CBIOMES is pleased to welcome Trisha Dawn to the team as a postdoc in Justin Hyun’s group at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Trisha’s research centers on the development of novel statistical methods inspired by complex scientific challenges. Her work spans a broad range of areas, including causal discovery, graph matching, and change-point detection, drawing on techniques from Bayesian nonparametrics, optimization, machine learning, and high-dimensional inference. She is particularly interested in applying statistical methodology to emerging data-rich fields such as spatial transcriptomics, single-cell multi-omics, network analysis, and dynamically evolving complex systems.

As part of her work with CBIOMES, Trisha is developing statistical methodologies to detect changes in microbial communities using cytogram data collected across varying environmental conditions and research cruise trajectories. She is also exploring Bayesian approaches for estimating rates associated with time-varying class-size distributions, with the goal of tracking changes in the abundance and distribution of microbial species over time. Her research will help advance our understanding of how marine microbial communities respond to environmental variability and change.

Trisha earned her Ph.D. in Statistics from Texas A&M University, where she was jointly advised by Yang Ni and Jesús Arroyo. Prior to her doctoral studies, she completed both her Master’s degree at the Indian Statistical Institute and her Bachelor’s degree at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata.
